CURATOR PREFACE

COGnitii 2021

Mariani Mohammad Dini & Maram Yasser

Architecture is all-encompassing. It covers more than just the physical yields, physics and sciences of a design. Everything can be, and is, related to architecture. And to form these relations, the ability to comprehend is crucial. This is where the Philosophy aspect of the design process comes in.

COGnitii—defined to follow the Cognitive Psychological Theory—is moderated by writings in the ARC4902 Topical Studies course. It is a theme for this year’s and future Final Year Students› Exhibition. The outcomes which visitors will view in this virtual exhibition are the results of combining the site synthesis, product analysis, and translating archaic rules into fresh theories hence forming their personal conceptual building philosophy. Any eventual schematic design from such building philosophy is, in fact, a test whether future architects have the ability to think, judge, analyse and solve problems into its best visual architecture. All of the mentioned were depicted through a set of writeups and graphical posters. The Class of 2021 is most grateful to Professor Ts. Dr. Rahinah Ibrahim for her detailed guidance on the techniques and encouragement in preparing the written materials. Together with Ts. Dr. Maszura Abdul Ghafar, they had enabled us to realize an impossible vision.

Needless to say, the Covid19- pandemic has been making the year revolutionary. The organizers and contributors of this exhibition have had the opportunity to uncover creative ways to conduct discussions and organize events, via virtual discussions between advisors, curators and editors, which has enhanced our ability and interest in conveying messages more clearly and efficiently than ever before.

Amidst these challenging times, most of us were able to pick-up new tech-savvy skills such as optimizing online platforms like Google Drive, WeTransfer, and PowerPoint. Additionally, we were able to simultaneously carry out the planning for this exhibition and our academic works for the duration of the 9 weeks it took until the launch of this event. The responsibility definitely came with its own trials and tribulations. Those were a small price which we were all glad to pay, as we run towards graduating together and meeting such meaningful accomplishments. The journey has been nothing short of invaluable, enlightening, and empowering, to say the least, and we extend thanks to all individuals involved in making COGnitii 2021 come to be.

The organizing team of COGnitii 2021 recognizes Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Zaky Jaafar, the Head of the Architecture Department, Faculty of Design and Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia. It would like to thank the Department of Architecture and Grounded Learning (M) Sdn. Bhd. for support and budget provision for the successful COGnitii 2021 event to take foot at the Faculty of Design and Architecture. COGnitii 2021 event is a befitting finale to the Class of 2021 Bachelor of Science in Architecture programme at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
