Chap.11 Project Site Design Opportunities Outlook

General Site Design strategy

According to the group Shah Alam Future, the journal mentions that Shah Alam has the problem of lacking of drainage system because the fast development of Sham Alam society. The journal give the solution that Shah Alam are able to make the local environment better by providing new material such as the implementation of the Eco-composite material into the local surrounding buildings. As the journal states, Eco-composite materials are able to be benefit on the raining, sound proofing and acts as sun shining device as well. However, to input this kind of new material require collecting data of local site. In order to use this kind of new material welly, imply design strategies are needed to mitigate with environmental issue.

Group Shah Alam Future also mentioned another issue that Shah Alam has, which is the environmental design is not good enough for people to walk into the site. The journal mentioned that the site is lacking of walking paths and people’s movement are limited due to this issue. The author of this journal give the solutions that to apply a well-designed walk-able environment in important and necessary, more pathways and should be designed into the site for a more friendly walking environment. However, to input this kind of new mood of walking path not only require design, but also required to fit local safety requirement before build.

According to group Mimwa and group Shah Alam Future, the site Shah Alam’s draining system are not able to follow up the city development. To solve this problem, group Mimwa give the solution that the site is suggested to use the green and gray infrastructure hybrid solution to the site of our project, which means to building up more nature elements and underground dams to solve the draining problem. The group Mimwa also study on the urban activities and suggests to input urban activities and outdoor space into the site design as well. How ever, to solve the lackey of draining system is a long run, to input the new material and new system into the site requires more data to ensure the system is suitable to the local environment.

In summary, both group Shah Alam Future and group Mimwa mentioned that the local draining system is lacking and not able to follow up the society development. On the other hand, the society also lack of walking environment and needed to be developed. Overall, as the general site design, the site Shah Alam still need more development than now, especially on draining system and walking environment design.

Internal Site Design Strategy

According to group Shah Alam Bunian, the internal site design need to use the date of green building infrastructure, by analysis the user experience to push Shah Alam to be a city with chance of development. The journal give the example of to use green building infrastructure in the site public spaces, recommends to use the strategies used in Australia’s commercial architecture on the Eco-maintenance and the material of major building element and accommodate this into our local preference.

According to group Mimwa, the group states that the disable people are possibly facing challenges in the designed buildings. The journal mention the idea that disable people need to have give more attention in the building design, reduce the limitation of the building move abilities. The solution giving in the journal is to by reduce the physical limitation to maximum the disable people moving area and based on the study, to create a disable friendly environment. However, to create a disable friendly require many equipment in the environment, in order to do that, study must be made to complete the design.

In summary, both group made the study on the internal site design strategy, mainly focused on the environmental design on Shah Alam. The group Shah Alam Bunian focus on how the environment can develop further, and the group Mimwa focus more on how the disable people are able to move into the site. Overall, site Shah Alam still need more development on the internal site design and have more opportunity developing further.

External Site Design Strategy

According to the group Prothrugy, the local site Shah Alam has the problem of lacking pathways, just as mention on this report above by group Miwma, the site Shah Alam local survey shows that people of local are not satisfied by the pathway design of local. The study shows that only the minimum resource are giving to the pathway design. The journal give the solution to do another survey to show what the people need and able to lead into every building by pathway. However, what is more important is that how these pathway are creating circulation and how the circulation lead into the building. The pathway design around the building are needed and should be giving enough resource to design and build.

Group Prothrugy also mentioned that due to the local weather, and data collecting from survey, site Sham Alam’s number of visitors rate are depending on the change of local temperature, the survey shows that visitors rate are decreasing while the temperature goes up. The journal give the solution that to design more outdoor comfortableness elements such as additional shade in the area through the use of trees, covered walkways, and pedestrian arcades.By providing extra shading system and nature element may help on the local site outdoor environment.

According to group Synergistic, the site Shah Alam’s public traffic transportation design need more development and design. The journal shows that the local site Shah Alam’s traffic situation is not good, within the society develop, the public traffic transportation can not follow up. The journal give the solutions to this issue. First to redesign the open area of the public, make sure the public traffic cover enough areas. Secondly, design more E-Bike station to the public use. Lastly, design more bus stop and maybe put bus stop in the designed studio project as well. However, to connect public transportation into the site require much more information and road planning, the commendation is to make more study on traffic issue and design the public transport from outside to inside the site.

In summary, the road and walk way issues are mentioned by each group, the external site design of Shah Alam overall seems lacking of designs and require more design element added into the site Shah Alam.

Overall through learning the journal, site Shah Alam from the study has shown many problems on site designs. A most common problem that is mentioned by several groups which is that the existing site design can no longer satisfy the needed of city, the designs are not able to follow up the city development. Viewing from another side, the fast development of the society are causing the city site designs strategy seems lacking. According to the journal, one of the most common problem that are mentioned is the walk path design of the site. The journals believes that the walk path is a sign of not being able to follow up the development of the city, they still remain the old way even the time now require much more than that. In order to solve this issue and create better site design, many changes should be made, the local government should re- focus on the site design of Shah Alam, check on the parts that are needed and developed, put more city resources into them.

In summary, site Shah Alam is a site with multiple issues, and require more development on site design. From analysis these journals, we can find that the site Shah Alam’s general site design, internal and external site design all have different issues need to be solved. All in all, the site Shah Alam still need a lot of development. On the other hand, Shah Alam is still a city with many potentials, with enough resources and design supporting, the site Shah Alam is able to become a city with great site design strategy in no time.
