Lifestyle
Lifestyle by Rahinah Ibrahim, Sharika Tasnim, Wong Li Wen & Syabil Arfa Abdul Wahid
Lifestyle is an important aspect for residents of Shah Alam. Three conceptual philosophical propositions are put forth under the topic of “Lifestyle.” They are “Ecosystemic Experience,” “Interaction Tranquility” and “Integrative Asian Lifestyle” which respectively serve the following brands: Muji, Hooga and Isetan. Ecosystemic experience hinges on social interaction and sensory integration while interaction tranquility is based on human emotions and interaction experience. The final proposition Integrative Asian Lifestyle is based on strong connection to eastern culture and lifestyles.
In Syabil Arfa Abdul Wahid’s representation of Muji, he proposes fusion of social interaction and sensory integration spaces that give users an inclusive and exclusive experience starting from the ground floor. Multifunctional and adaptable spaces are addressed in all floors to embrace one self's social-sensory integration of expression and responsiveness. In Wong Li Wen’s representation of Hooga, she proposes modern Scandinavian design spaces and living qualities throughout the building floors. Some incorporation of emotion interaction and experience were seen using natural elements. In Sharika Tasnim’s representation of Isetan, she proposes integration of unique eastern culture and lifestyle in the retail spaces to generate shared beliefs for building a strong and prosperous community. Social connectedness are seen infused through experiential shopping journey. From the conceptual philosophies related to lifestyle, the trend is to produce retail spaces that integrates fusion culture sensory spaces whilst prospers contextual identity.
Eco-systemic Experience | Muji
Syabil Arfa Abdul Wahid
In urban concept, a successful architectural space must be able to influence the users’ behavior. Therefore, Ecosystemic Experience is a concept derived from the fusion of social interaction and sensory integration in the design to give user an inclusive and exclusive experience. An ecosystem is a biological community where organisms interact with their physical environment. By bringing the concept of ecosystem into the building program, it allows a better quality of interaction between users and its surrounding space or environment.
Atmodiwirjo (2014) explained in his research that in order to create a responsive building design, it must provide sensory rich activities and spaces in its program. The space should also be multifunctional and adaptable to different events and occasion that will result in a stimulating design. Social interaction on the other hand is triggered by these three elements integrated into the design which are ‘specific communal space’, ‘access’ and ‘natural and artificial space building’ (Nomani & Daneshpour, 2016). Therefore, this concept store aims to embrace users’ social and sensory needs that will allow them to be more expressive and responsive; either solitarily or socially.
Interaction Tranquility | Hooga
Wong Li Wen
INTERACTION TRANQUILLITY is a combination of human emotions and interaction experience. A well-designed space evolved from human emotions which may affect users, neighbourhoods and quality of life. Furthermore, designing urban spaces for interactive experience which can enhancing responsive environments that positively influence users’ perceptions, conceptions and urban experience.
Comfort is an environmental response that is highly affected by cognitive and behavioural processes (Ortiz et al., 2017). The human emotion is the ergonomics of space design and behavioural psychology shows the connection between emotional needs, comfort and user safety. In order to promote the products, an experience space is promoted where can affect the human emotion on escaping from the formal space to a cosy atmosphere. Interactive environments are often portrayed as being responsive, active, sensitive, and in a constant dialogue with us as users or inhabitants (Wiberg & Stolterman, 2008). The interaction experience is the design of natural elements in urban planning and design which is also one of the important parts of a city's life quality. Since the product of HOOGA are inspired by Scandinavian concept- modern design and nature element. It is suitable to provide space to attract customer to experience the space provided by the building.
Integrative Asian Lifestyle | ISetan
Sharika Tasnim
ISETAN is a Japanese store that promotes a strong connection to eastern culture and lifestyles. I would like to highlight my architectural space planning in regard to similarities between Japanese and the Malaysian food, lifestyle, and aesthetics. Our site is located in Shah Alam and is recognized as a smart city with ample greeneries. As we analyze the site, there are buildings with modern influence surrounding the site. My recommendation is to bring forth the Look East Policy 2.0 bringing Malaysia and Japan together to incorporate a unique identity of Integrative Asian Culture & Lifestyle to generate shared rules and set standards building a strong, prosperous community. The chosen terminologies for ISETAN are culture-oriented design and social connectedness.
Shavitt & Barnes, (2020) highlighted about culture and consumer journey where the author probes deeper into the significant consideration of cultural distinction and the enrichment of consumer journey infused with the consumer preference and the relevance of brands to a satisfying shopping experience. Bailey et al., (2020) emphasize social connectedness in urban areas where the author analyzed deeper into the key factors that cause smooth flow of community and social structures. The impact social connectedness has in our community is of immense importance.
